Here is a comprehensive list of the most prestigious design, architecture, construction, engineering and development awards in CT.
AIA is the Connecticut chapter of the American Institute of Architects. At an annual event called the AIA Design Awards, the chapter gives out Honor Awards to outstanding achievements in multiple categories of both building and architecture.
An event open to four regional chapters of the AIA – AIA CT, AIA NJ, AIA NYS, and AIA PA – that recognizes projects in the categories of Built, Unbuilt, and Regional and Urban Design. QUAD stands for “Quality Unites Architectural Design.”
An annual awards competition honoring excellence in construction and safety hosted by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut. The awards are judged by an independent panel of judges including architects, engineers, and university professionals.
An annual event hosted by the Professional Women in Construction of Connecticut that honors career accomplishments of local AEC professionals.
Known colloquially as the Annual Connecticut Real Estate Awards, this event is hosted by the Crew CT – The Real Estate Exchange, a local chapter of the CREW Network. The Blue Ribbon Awards Showcase honors excellence in architectural design of commercial properties.
This event, hosted by the Connecticut Building Congress, honors outstanding building projects that exemplify the values of teamwork. Project categories include Landscape Architecture, New Construction, Transportation/Civil, and many others.
Connecticut Preservation Awards
Hosted by the Connecticut Trust for the Historic Preservation, the CT Preservation Awards recognize architects’ and builders’ significant efforts in preserving the rich historical details of Connecticut’s built environment.
The Connecticut Main Street Center is an organization dedicated to creating successful downtown areas throughout the state. The CMSC Awards of Excellence celebrate the most impactful work by local builders, architects, and designers.
SMPS CT Blue Carpet Gala/Marketing Communication Awards
The Society for Marketing Professional Services Connecticut hosts a bi-annual awards event called the Blue Carpet Gala/Marketing Communication Awards. The event recognizes excellence in marketing communications by AEC firms.
The Connecticut chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects annually recognizes and publicizes recent examples of excellent work by local landscaping professionals. Winners are announced at the group’s annual Holiday event.
The American Council of Engineering Excellence has been recognizing exemplary engineering accomplishments through the “Engineering Excellence Awards” (EEC) program since 1967. Projects that win at the Connecticut level are eligible to compete at the national level.
The Connecticut Green Building Council gives out awards on an annual basis to designers who promote green buildings in the state. The awards span a number of categories including residential, commercial, and institutional.
The New England chapter of the International Interior Design Association hosts an annual event to honor excellence in design, real estate, construction, and engineering in CT, NH, RH, and MA. Awards are bestowed in many highly-specific categories including “Workspace Over 80,000SF,” “Student Housing,” and “Best in Connecticut.”
BOMA SoCT, the Building Owners and Managers Association of Southern Connecticut, is one of more than 90 BOMA chapters around the country. Each year the association honors excellence in commercial real estate and allied industries at an event known as the “Best of BOMA.”
A BOMA TOBY award is one of the most prestigious in commercial real estate. TOBY stands for “The Outstanding Building of the Year,” and the awards are based on three levels of judging: Local BOMA competition (i.e. BOMA SoCT), regional competition, international competition.
The Associated General Contractors of Connecticut (in conjunction with the CCIA, the CT Construction Industries Association) offers a host of awards honoring various achievements in local construction. Awards include the CCIA Safety Awards, the national AGC Safety Awards, the Arthur Gruhn Excellence in Construction award, and the CCIA Community Service Award.
This event, held in Hartford, honors Construction Management Association of America members and non-members in Connecticut who demonstrate creativity and innovation in the categories of infrastructure and new/renovated buildings.
Each year, the Hartford Preservation Alliance recognizes local projects that have excelled in the categories of Historic Restoration, Historic Rehabilitation or Adaptive Re-use, New Construction in a Historic District (infill) or Addition to a Historic Property, Municipal/Government Historic
